Priority List
Poor road user behaviour is the leading cause of road traffic collisions in Northern Ireland. Behaviours like inattention, driving too close, and momentary
distractions may seem minor in the moment, but they can have devastating, life changing consequences.
That’s why the new campaign, 'Priority List', urges motorists to confront the dangers they create with
their poor driving behaviour. Our lives are full of pressures and distractions, but behind the wheel, even a second of lost attention can be the difference
between getting home safely and causing a collision that could change your life, or someone’s else’s forever.
We all know the deadly risks that result from making unsafe decisions behind the wheel. Yet every day, drivers still make choices that put themselves,
their passengers, and other road users in danger. A glance at a phone, adjusting the radio, or even a quick sip of coffee might feel harmless -
until the vehicle in front brakes suddenly, a pedestrian steps out, or a child runs onto the road.
Most of us have encountered aggressive drivers: tailgating, swerving, or acting as though the rules don’t apply to them. But many of us don’t realise that
our own habits; eating behind the wheel, rushing through amber lights, improper signalling, reckless lane changes, are just as dangerous. These selfish,
split second decisions can trigger a chain reaction that ends in a collision, serious injury, or worse.
Roads are unforgiving. There are no second chances when a thoughtless or careless action meets an unexpected hazard.
